2SHOT7 is a collaboration with the group Bateau Lavoir, (Belgium), the musicians Kahil el Zabar, Billy Bang and Hamiet Blewitt (USA), working with improvised open structure musical and video performances.

I make the videos based on the same premise as the musicians by improvising in situ, by using the town or city and it’s surroundings.  The sense of editing comes through the simple juxtaposition of two screens, one being the exterior filmed during the day and the other the interior, filmed during the concert itself, playing on the here and now.

“Our objective is to be completely active in that moment of dynamic equilibrium where time is present. There is a strong history for this in music but in film with its tenuous inheritance of literature and theatre the history is not so clear…” With Markus Hansen on video, Bateau Lavoir are anxious to subvert this paradigm. Bateau Lavoir is a collective that attracts the collaboration of of very diverse musicians.  The principal activity is life performance but we have brought out a cd with Archie Shepp in 2004 on the Lowlands label, Edited by Orkhestra International.

Mon intervention utilise la vidéo, elle est également improvisée dans la ville où a lieu le concert, le jour même. Le découpage et le montage résultent de la simple juxtaposition de deux écrans, l’un où l’on voit et entend ce qui a été enregistré le jour du concert, et l’autre, le soir, pendant le concert. C’est un jeu sur le ici et maintenant
