Floor Drawing of the Big Now…

… is the final version of a site specific installation where I used the volume/space of the staircase of the belltower of the Evry Cathedral as a self generating sound chamber. The sound of the people walking up and down the staircase would be mixed in with the sound of the bells. Each moment is recorded and played back four minutes later, the time it takes for the tape to descend the distance of the height of the staircase which is eleven metres, and make it’s drawing on the floor and rise up again. It is re-recorded infinitely, thereby creating a sound that is charged with all the previous moments. The end result is an automatic, self-sublimating symphony.
